Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is one of the simplest and most popular ways to dial up the wattage of your smile. It is a simple, in-office procedure that takes as little as an hour to lighten your teeth by up to eight shades, instantly improving your smile without invasive procedures
How Does Teeth Whitening Work?
Teeth whitening is one of the safest ways to improve your smile. It’s also quick and budget-friendly. At any appointment, you can let us know that you would like to whiten your teeth, and we can discuss your options. Depending on your preference, we offer both in-office teeth whitening and a take-home option by Opalescence.
In-Office Teeth Whitening
We can whiten teeth while you relax in the dental chair in two or three sessions of 20 minutes each. At the end of the last round of whitening, your teeth will be several shades lighter, and you will leave our office with a brighter smile. Many patients choose this option for an upcoming special event.
At-Home Whitening
If you prefer to whiten your teeth at home, we can design custom bleaching splints that fit snugly over your teeth. These will be ready in just a few days after your appointment. When you pick them up, we will also provide the bleaching solution to use with them. With only a few hours of wear per day, our special bleaching agent bubbles stains right out of your enamel in a short time without altering tooth structure or existing dental work. When your teeth reach the desired brightness, only occasional treatment is needed to maintain your new smile. We’ll want to take “after” photos at your next appointment.

Teeth Whitening FAQs
Why can’t I whiten my teeth using the kits I order online?
Over-the-counter bleaching agents are available at drug stores and online. However, since these products can harm the gums and teeth, it’s better to use products that our practice has evaluated and recommended.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for teeth whitening?
We recommend having your teeth professionally cleaned by our dental hygienist to remove plaque and tartar a week or two before having your teeth whitened. This increases the effectiveness of the bleaching process for optimal results.
Is there anything I need to avoid after you whiten my teeth?
For the first 48 hours after whitening, avoid highly staining foods such as red wine, pasta sauces, tea, and coffee. Do not smoke, as your teeth’s pores are still open and will absorb stains more readily.
How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?
If you practice good oral hygiene, your whiter, brighter teeth can last one to two years. Limiting staining foods such as red wine, pasta sauces, tea, and coffee will prolong the effectiveness of teeth whitening. You should also avoid smoking, which quickly stains teeth. Periodic touch-ups with our at-home whitening kit will prolong the effect of teeth whitening treatments.
Will my teeth be sensitive after teeth whitening?
You may feel some sensitivity for a few days following treatment, but this fades quickly. Staying hydrated helps minimize sensitivity.
Should I whiten my teeth before or after getting them straightened?
We recommend having your teeth straightened with braces or clear aligners first, then giving them time to rest before bleaching them. This gives them time to recover from being slowly moved and any resulting sensitivity before you begin the next process.
